ROLE PURPOSE The Sunday World, Ireland's best-selling and agenda-setting popular newspaper, is seeking to hire a Video Journalist. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and launch the video strand on the brand-new Sundayworld.com, launching in the autumn. The ideal candidate will be a talented, resourceful video journalist with strong news judgement, able to spot great video story ideas and quickly act on them. She/he will work closely with the Sunday World editorial team and be responsible for helping to ensure sundayworld.com will have a competitive edge. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES (Overview)

  • Develop creative, innovative ways of telling stories with video
  • Produce and script video, liaising with journalists and editors
  • Direct and shoot single and multi-camera video in a studio and on location, working with contributors and the public
  • Edit video in a consistent style and tone
  • Ingest and upload video, creating suitable metadata
  • Use data from many different sources to help generate ideas and identify subjects that will interest our audiences
  • Use news wires and social listening to source additional video
  • Work with Audience Editors to make sure our video reaches the widest possible audience
  • Adhere to editorial and legal codes and practices
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)
  • At least 2 years' experience of producing and editing video, preferably for a news outlet
  • Experience of creating social media video formats
  • A journalism qualification would be preferable
  • A knowledge of internet analytics and SEO
  • Full, clean driver's licence is desirable
SKILLS Technical
  • Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop & After Effects, Audition
  • Audio and lighting
Non-technical
  • Comfortable with digital content and video management systems
  • Excellent time management
  • Thorough understanding of how people consume video on social and mobile platforms
  • Ability to work to fast deadlines
